Do You Need an Explosion-Proof Pneumatic Actuator for Hazardous Areas?

If your facility handles flammable gases, vapors, or combustible dust, the short answer is yes – you need an actuator specifically designed and certified for explosive atmospheres. Using standard pneumatic actuators in hazardous areas is a serious safety risk and often a regulatory violation.


The Core Question: Why "Explosion-Proof"?

The term "explosion-proof" for pneumatic actuators is somewhat of a misnomer. Unlike electrical equipment that requires heavy enclosures to contain an internal explosion, pneumatic actuators are not electrically powered. However, they can still ignite an explosive atmosphere through mechanical means:

Dust Layer Management
